Name: Richard Whitcombe
Job Role: Dentist
Qualifications: BDS Birmingham 1989
GDC number: GDC 64921
After qualifying I worked for a year as a Senior House Officer in maxillofacial surgery at Wolverhampton. After this I went into general practice in Sutton Coldfield and University of Birmingham Dental Practice.
In 1996 I joined Castle Gate Dental Practice as an associate dentist, taking over from the retiring Russ Holloway. Over the following years I bought into the practice and became sole owner and principal dentist in 2006.
I thoroughly enjoy the challenges practice ownership brings and being able to practice dentistry to a high standard without constraints from NHS. I gain the most satisfaction when completing treatment with nervous patients who become more relaxed under our care – including both children and adults. It is always rewarding providing cosmetic treatments that enhance a patient’s appearance and boost their confidence, and it’s a joy to see restorations I’ve carried out withstand the test of time. I’m also delighted to offer transformational Six Month Smiles cosmetic braces to my adult patients.
We are firm advocates of preventive strategies and watching these working, so that patients need infrequent treatment, is a benefit of having an ongoing relationship with patients – for them and me! I strive to keep up to date with current techniques and regularly attend postgraduate meetings and courses.
I am married to Catherine and we have two children, Louis and Cleo. Outside work I enjoy spending time with my family particularly outdoors, walking, road cycling and kayaking, when possible.
